
The Otago Volts are a first class cricket team representing the Otago Cricket Association, one of six major associations that make up New Zealand Cricket. The Otago association was formed in Dunedin 1876, almost 30 years after the first club games were played in the city. They adopted the 'Volts' name for the 1997-98 season, and their major sponsor is State Insurance Ltd. Otago currently competes in the State Championship first class competition, the State Shield domestic one day competition and the State Twenty20.
Plunket Shield: 1924-25, 1932-33, 1947-48, 1950-51, 1952-53, 1957-58, 1969-70, 1971-72.
Shell Trophy/State Championship: 1974-75, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1985-86, 1987-88.
State Shield: 1987-88, 2007-08.
State Twenty20: 2008-09
Winning the State Twenty20 in the 2008/09 season, Otago Volts became eligible to play in the Champions League Twenty20 2009. They failed to qualify for the Super Eights stage of the tournament losing both their first stage matches.
In their first match, Otago Volts lost to Cape Cobras by 54 runs. Cape Cobras managed to score 193/4 in their 20 overs and Otago Volts are all out for 139 runs. In their second match, Otago Volts lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 80 runs. Bangalore scored 188/2 in their 20 overs and Otago Volts are all out for 108.
