Kolkata Knight Riders defeats Deccan Chargers by 11 runs

Kolkata Knight Riders beat defending champions Deccan Chargers by 11 runs in the opening match of the Indian Premier League 2010.

Adam Gilchrist won the toss and chose to field first. Chaminda Vaas who bowled the first over picked up the wickets of Manoj Tiwary and captain Sourav Ganguly, both for a duck with 0 runs on the board. Hodge and Pujara added 31 runs to the third wicket before debutant Jaskaran Singh got the wicket of Hodge. Owais Shah and Angel Mathews began the repair work and added an unbeaten 130 runs to pull back Kolkata Knight Riders right back into the game. At the end of their 20 overs, Kolkata Knight Riders scored a massive 161/4.

In reply, Deccan Chargers started off well scoring 62 runs from the first six overs. VVS Laxman was the first one to depart for 22(14). Herschelle Gibbs gave good support to captain Adam Gilchrist and the pair added 38 runs for the second wicket. Deccan Chargers couldn't utilize the good start given by the top order as they crumbled from 99/1 to 150/7. And Kolkata Knight Riders who had a terrible first and second season at the Indian Premier League won the opening match by 11 runs.
