Australia wins the fourth ODI by 6 wickets

Eden Park, Auckland
March 11, 2010

Australia wins the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy by defeating New Zealand by 6 wickets in the fourth ODI. Ricky Ponting opted to field first winning the toss in a must win game for New Zealand. His decision to send New Zealand in appeared to have backfired as the Black Caps got off to a good start. Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill added 63 runs for the first wicket in 46 deliveries before Guptill departed for 30(22). However, Australia picked up the last nine wickets for 118 runs as New Zealand were all out for 238 runs. A target of 238 runs was easy for the Australian team, but their chase was interrupted by rain. Only 34 overs of play was possible when rain stopped and the revised target was set to 200 runs. Ricky Ponting and Cameron White scored fifties each and Australia won the match with 17 balls to spare.
