Australia kicked off their tour of New Zealand with a win in the first Twenty20 International played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington. Daniel Vettori won the toss and has chosen to bat first. Shaun Tait got the first breakthrough immediately as Brendon McCullum was caught behind for 2 runs. Wickets fell at regular intervals, but a good partnership between James Franklin 43(42) and Gareth Hopkins 21(13) in the end helped New Zealand score a decent 118 in their twenty overs. In reply, Australia got off a good start as David Warner 19(10) and Shane Watson 19(12) hammered 38 runs in the first three overs. As the match seemed to be slipping away from New Zealand, three wickets fell for just one run and New Zealand got into the game. David Hussey 46(36) and captain Michael Clarke 18*(26) added 67 runs for the fourth wicket and Australia won the match by 6 wickets with 24 balls to spare.
