Mahela Jayawardene is a batsman and former captain of Sri Lanka. He retired from One Day Internationals in March 2015 and from Tests and Twenty20 International format in 2014. Jayawardene and his compatriot Kumar Sangakkara retired from One Day international format at the end of Sri Lanka's campaign at the 2015 World Cup.

Having retired from international formats, Jayawardene continues to play domestic cricekt. He has signed up with Sussex Sharks to play in the 2015 NatWest t20 Blast and with Jamaica Tallawahs in 2015 Caribbean Premier League.

Jayawardene made his debut against India in 1997.

Jayawardene is part of the Sri Lankan side that won the World T20 in 2014.
