India beat South Africa by an innings and 58 runs to win the second test match at Eden Gardens, Kolkatta. India drew the series 1-1 and will remain the No. 1 in ICC Test Rankings.

Then Alviro Petersen and Hashim Amla registered a double century partnership of 209 runs. Alviro Petersen who is making his debut scored a century 100(164). Hashim Amla continued from where he left off in the first test and scored yet another century 114(166). After the fall of Amla and Petersen, South Africa went to tea at 228/2. However, India led by Harbhajan Singh made a remarkable comeback picking up 5 wickets in the last session. South Africa lost 5 wickets for 32 runs and they are 266/9 at stumps on Day 1.
