The first test match between India and Sri Lanka at Sardar Patel Ground, Ahmedabad ended in a draw. India who has lost the recent One day series against Australia, has never lost a test match against Sri Lanka in India.
India won the toss and chose to bat first. However, Dhoni's decision to bat first soon backfired as India lost the top order very quickly. Openers Gautam Gambhir 1(10) and Virender Sehwag 16(11) were out before the end of seventh over in the innings. Sachin Tendulkar is gone for 4 runs and VVS Laxman is out for a duck. Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh are building up a good partnership for India and they added 73 runs for the fifth wicket and are still at crease at lunch on Day 1. India are 105/4 at Lunch. Dravid and Yuvraj Singh added 125 runs for the fifth wicket when Yuvraj departed for 68(93). Dravid is joined by skipper Dhoni and the pair added 224 runs for the sixth wicket. MS Dhoni was out for 110(159). India managed to score a massive 385/6 at end of Day 1, with Dravid unbeaten on 177(251)
Day 2: Resuming at 385/6, India scored 41 runs in the morning session on Day 2 and are all out for 426 runs. Sri Lanka are 275/3 at end of day 2 with Mahela Jayawardene unbeaten on 36*(70) and Thilan Samaraweera on 45*(86). Earlier, opener Tillakaratne Dilshan scored a century 112(133).
Day 3: Sri Lanka are 165 runs ahead in the first innings of the first test match at stumps on Day 3. Mahela Jayawardene has scored his 6th double century in test matches and his second against India.
Day 4: Prasanna Jayawardene hit his second test century and Sri Lanka is past the 200 lead in the first innings. Sri Lanka declare for 760/7 with a lead of 334 runs. India are 190/2 at stumps on Day 4 trailing by 144 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
Day 5: Gautam Gambhir scored a century as India trail by 78 runs with 7 wickets in hand at lunch on the final day. Sachin hit his 43rd test century as the match ended in a draw
