England England defeated South Africa South Africa by 22 runs to advance to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. With the loss, South Africa is knocked out of the tournament as well. England won the toss and chose to bat first. Matt Prior is out for the match due to an illness, which means Eoin Morgan will do the glovework. England made 323/8 in their alloted fifty overs. They started off well and lost their first wicket of Joe Denly with 48 on the scoreboard at end of 10 overs. Andrew Strauss also departed soon for 25. Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood scored runs regularly and added 163 runs for the third wicket. Owais Shah was unfortunate to miss a century and made 98 off 89 deliveries. Paul Collingwood made 82(94) and a quick cameo at the end by Eoin Morgan 67(34) helped England post 323/8 at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, South Africa could manage 301/9 in their alloted fifty overs. A fighting knock from skipper Graeme Smith couldn't help South Africa win the match. Smith was the ninth wicket to fall for South Africa and he registered his highest score in ODI of 141(134).
