Pakistan in the second semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 at Johannesburg on October 3. New Zealand will now play Australia in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 on October 5 at Centurion. Australia beat England by 9 wickets in the first semifinal.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. New Zealand started off well and has taken the first 4 wickets for 86 runs on the board. New Zealand finished toppers in Group B. They lost to South Africa in their first match, beat Sri Lanka by 38 runs and beat England by 4 wickets in their final round robin match.
Pakistan finished second in Group A. They won their first match against West Indies by 5 wickets. In the second match, they played against India and won the match by 54 runs. In the final match, they were restricted to 205 in their 50 overs against Australia. Australia were going on well at 140/2 but Pakistan rallied back to take 6 quick wickets. However, in the end, Australia managed to win the match off the last ball of the over.
