Pakistan defeats India by 54 runs - 2009 ICC Champions Trophy

Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India by 54 runs. Younis Khan won the toss and chose to bat first. Pakistan made 302/8 in their alloted fifty overs. They got off to a good start, but the run rate dipped after Kamral Akmal and Younis Khan fell in quick session. With 65/3 on the board, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Yousuf played slowly and sensibly taking singles and hitting the odd ball to the boundary. A partnership worth 206 runs for the fourth wicket between Shoaib and Yousuf helped Pakistan reach 302 in their alloted fifty overs. Shoaib Malik reached his seventh one day century and Mohammad Yousuf fell for 87 runs. To India's credit, they picked up six wickets in the last five overs for 41 runs.

In reply, India lost the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in the fifth over. Gautam Gambhir got off to a good start and continued playing aggressively. Gambhir made use of the errors made by the Pakistani bowlers who bowled as many as 7 no-balls in the match. Gambhir was run out for 57(46). After Gambhir is gone, Shahid Afridi gave the much needed breaks for Pakistan claiming the wickets of Virat Kohli and captain MS Dhoni. Suresh Raina made a good partnership with Rahul Dravid and they scored runs at regular intervals. Raina was unlucky getting out leg before to a questionable decision for 46(41). Dravid fought till the end but was runout in the 42nd over. In the end, Pakistan won the match by 54 runs.
