The 2009 ICC Champions Trophy is held in South Africa between 22 September and 5 October, 2009. The matches are held at Wanderers Stadium and Centurion Park, both in the Johannesburg. It is the sixth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, and was previously known as the ICC Knock-out. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan between 12 and 28 September 2008. However, the International Cricket Committee(ICC) postponed the tournament due to security fears expressed by several participating countries following the attack on Sri Lankan team in Lahore.
Australia and
Pakistan emerged as the top teams in Group A and
New Zealand and
England in Group B. Australia beat England by 9 wickets in the first semifinal at SuperSport Park, Centurion on October 2, 2009. In the second semifinal on October 3, 2009 between New Zealand beat Pakistan by 5 wickets.
Australia won the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. In the final, Australia beat New Zealand by 6 wickets and became the first country to defend the Champions Trophy successfully in the tournament history. Australia also became the only country to win two Champions Trophy titles.
