England in the first semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 at Centurion. Australia continued where they left off in England reaching its second consecutive Champion's Trophy final beating England by 9 wickets. England won the toss and chose to bat first.
Australia got off to a good start taking the first six wickets of England for 101 runs. Luke Wright and Tim Bresnan took the job of getting England back in the game and scored 107 runs for the seventh wicket. England managed to score 257 in 47.4 overs, thanks to Tim Bresnan who scored 80 in 76 balls. He got good support from Luke Wright who scored 48 in 68 balls. Australia beat Pakistan in their final round robin match and finished top in Group A. Australia beat West Indies by 50 runs in their first match. The second match against India was abandoned due to rain with Australia cruising well at 234/4 in 42.4 overs when rain stopped the match. In their third match, Australia restricted Pakistan to 205 and were going on well at 140/2, but lost their middle order wickets quickly and just managed to win the match off the last ball.
England won two matches out of the three they have played in the first stage. England upset Sri Lanka winning by 6 wickets in the first match. They beat hosts South Africa in the second match by 22 runs, but lost to New Zealand by 4 wickets in the third.
