Australia beat India by 4 runs in the first One day International at Vadodara. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. Virender Sehwag is back int the Indian side, but Yuvraj Singh missed out in the first One dayer. Australia continued their opening combination of Shane Watson and Tim Paine which was proved to be successful in the Champions Trophy 2009. Ashish Nehra got rid of Shane Watson early in the innings in the second over. Tim Paine is joined by Ricky Ponting at the crease and the pair added 97 runs for the second wicket before Paine departed for a fluent fifty in 62 balls. Ricky Ponting scored 74(85) and Cameron White made a fifty in 67 balls as Australia eye towards a big score. In the end Michael Hussey scored a quick 74 from 55 deliveries and Australia managed to score 292/8 in their fifty overs.

In reply, India got off to a perfect start with Virender Sehwag hitting the first two balls of the innings to the boundary. Brett Lee got the first blood when he got rid of the dangerous man in the fourth over. Virender Sehwag departed for 13(11) and Sachin is out for 14(29). Gautam Gambhir added 64 runs with skipper MS Dhoni. India took the batting powerplay after 34 overs and Gambhir departed the for 68(85). Suresh Raina 9(10) and MS Dhoni 34(46) departed in consecutive overs. With 92 runs required in the last 10 overs, Harbhajan Singh stepped up and scored an aggressive knock of 49(31). India scored 20 runs in the penultimate over and 9 runs were required in the final over when Harbhajan Singh departed. In the end, Australia won the match by 4 runs.
