Australia began their chase with Shane Watson and Tim Paine as their opening batsmen. They got off to a good start reaching 45 runs off the first 9 overs. Paine was the first one to depart for 16 runs off 29 balls. Skipper Ricky Ponting and vice captain Michael Clarke scored runs regularly to help Australia maintain their runrate. Ricky Ponting who missed the first three one day internationals resting back in Australia scored his 27th international one day century. Clarke gave a good support at the other end scoring 52(64). Ricky Ponting departed at 126(109) at the end of 44th over with Australia still requiring 39 off 36 balls. In the end, Cameron White and Mitchell Johnson helped Australia reached the target with 10 balls to spare.
